Mathematical Dominoes

The game of dominoes was invented in
China in the 12th century. It reached Europe in the 18th century. Now we have taken this game to a new level, Mathematical Dominoes.

This new game was created by OlaviAla who thought up the idea while he was walking round a shop and thinking how current games could be made more interesting.                   Mathematical Dominoes is similar to ordinary dominoes, but you have to do some mental arithmetic to move the game on. In an early version of the game we had the calculation on one side of the piece only. But we soon realised that it would be memorised too quickly and the game would be too easy. So we put a different calculation on each side of the pieces.

Mathematical Dominoes is patented and its design is protected. It is produced by Craftmasters Estonia.

The game was designed by a young person and is aimed at children.  As such, the box pictures were drawn by Gerthrud Grents, a 10-year-old schoolgirl who is a pupil at Holstre school near Viljandi. In 2008 this product won an award given to the most innovative product created by a student company, which is a business run by students still at school.
